Curtis Way Calls for Permanent GST/HST Relief on Rental Housing in The Hill Times
Ahead of the November 5 federal budget, RMS Group founder and CEO Curtis Way was featured in The Hill Times in his role as Chairman of the National Apartment Council (NAC).
Curtis outlined the NAC’s top budget priority: making the current temporary GST/HST relief on purpose-built rental projects permanent.
The relief creates real savings on every project. NAC members build thousands of apartment units across Canada each year, so those savings add up and improve the economics of new rental construction. The federal government took an important first step by introducing the temporary relief, and the NAC is now asking Ottawa to make it permanent.
Allan Drewlo, Chair of the NAC’s Tax and Incentives Committee, also noted that rental projects often take about five years to plan and build. Permanent relief would give builders the certainty to commit to projects today, so new homes are ready when Canadians need them.
Why it matters
Purpose-built rental takes years to deliver. Predictable, long-term tax policy helps builders move forward with confidence and get more rental homes started across the country.
