Founded by Curtis Way in 1994, The RMS Group of Companies (RMS) is a locally owned and operated real estate development firm built on more than a decade of hands-on project management experience gained during Alberta’s construction boom. As a business graduate, Curtis developed a reputation for delivering complex projects on time and on budget, establishing an approach grounded in disciplined execution, practical decision-making, and long-term relationships.
Over the past 30 years, RMS has grown its expertise across development, construction, asset management, and property management. During that time, the company has developed, constructed, and managed more than five million square feet of multifamily, commercial, and industrial properties across Western Canada, while also servicing hundreds of acres of land.
Today, RMS continues to take a hands-on approach to its projects and properties, supported by a leadership team with deep industry experience. Curtis Way began his career in 1979 in the construction industry with a prominent Edmonton high-rise contractor. Early exposure to tenant improvements, renovations, industrial developments, and large-scale high-rise projects laid the foundation for what would become a distinguished career in Western Canadian real estate. This hands-on experience across diverse asset classes became a driving force behind the long-term success of The RMS Group.
In 1994, Curtis founded The RMS Group of Companies to help property owners navigate the complexities of real estate development, construction, and management. Today, The RMS Group operates as an integrated platform comprised of three primary companies, RMS Developments Inc., RMS Builders Inc., and Royal Management Services Inc., working seamlessly together to provide a fully integrated “One Stop Shop” approach.
Laura Way-Olenek is President of The RMS Group of Companies. With over 20 years of experience in real estate development, construction, and property management, Laura oversees a diversified portfolio exceeding $750 million in multifamily, commercial, and industrial assets and leads a multidisciplinary team of more than 50 employees.
Laura began her career after graduating from NAIT’s Hospitality Management program, quickly advancing into senior leadership roles due to her operational acumen and people-first approach. She managed the largest hotel in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, where she cultivated resilience and high-performing teams under demanding conditions, before returning to Edmonton as General Manager of a leading hotel property.
